Carman / Welders


Position available at the following locations:

  • Bucyrus, OH (2nd Shift)

  • Canton, OH

  • Fostoria, OH

  • Grenada, MS

  • Marion, OH (2nd Shift)

  • New Lexington, OH

  • Tallahassee, FL


Performs all inbound, outbound car inspections, air brake tests, inspects loads to ensure the customer is protected against receipt of inbound liability



  • Learn, comprehend, apply and communicate all AAR, FRA, Customer and American Railcar requirements

  • Use a variety of tools and equipment including but not limited to pneumatic and hydraulic tools, grinders, jacks, welders, cutting torches, forklifts and cranes safely and proficiently

  • Daily assistance with housekeeping

  • The ability to organize time and priorities to meet production standards

  • The ability to work overtime and weekends as required


Education and Experience

  • H.S. Diploma, GED or equivalent is preferred

  • Basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills required

  • Must complete FRA 215 and 218 training


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions

  • Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials

  • May work in confined spaces and at heights exceeding 4 ft. off the ground with proper PPE and fall protection

  • Close mental and visual attention required, coordinating manual dexterity with mental and visual attention for sustained periods of time


Work Site Environment

  • Covered roof area - temperature may not be climate controlled

  • Work outdoors

  • Primary work environment subject to extreme heat or cold for considerable amounts of time.  Must dress accordingly

  • Hearing protection shall be required in certain designated areas and during the performance of specific designated jobs due to noise levels greater than 80 decibels

  • Intermittent exposure to vibration when using impact tools

  • Scaffolds, floors, ladders and walking surfaces may be uneven
