This position is responsible for performing a variety of rail car repair tasks - welding, jacking of car and
replacement of railcar component parts including air brake.


Key Job Responsibilities

  • Use a variety of tools and equipment including but not limited to pneumatic and hydraulic tools, jacks, welders, cutting torches, and forklifts proficiently

  • Learn, comprehend, apply and communicate all AAR, FRA, Customer and Bucyrus Railcar requirements

  • Daily assistance with housekeeping

  • The ability to organize time and priorities to meet production efficiency standards


Education and Experience

  • H.S. Diploma, GED or equivalent is preferred

  • Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required

  • Passing score on welder test (welding certificate is a plus)


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely

  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions. All work is performed outdoors.

  • The ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms, legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials

  • The ability to work at heights exceeding 4 ft. off the ground with proper PPE

  • The ability to maintain mental and visual attention to details for sustained periods of time


Working Site Environment

  • Primary work environment subject to extreme heat or cold for considerable amounts of time. Must dress accordingly

  • Hearing protection shall be required in certain designated areas and during the performance of specific designated jobs due to noise levels greater than 80 decibels

  • Intermittent exposure to vibration when using impact tools

  • Floors, ladders and walking surfaces may be uneven

  • Employee must abide with company policies and procedures
