Shop Leadman


Position available at the following locations:

  • Bucyrus, OH

  • Marion, OH


Direct, lead and supervise hourly team members in production of railcar repair



  • Schedule work on cars to meet customer commitments

  • Monitors and manages shop efficiency

  • Performs in-process inspection on all work performed prior to cars leaving the department

  • Holds daily departmental safety, quality, and production meetings

  • Manage, mentor, coach and train team members

  • Participates in root-cause investigations and corrective and preventative actions to prevent recurrence


Education and Experience

  • 3 years of railcar inspection, test, and repair experience preferred

  • 1 year supervisory/management experience preferred

  • Knowledge of the Federal Railroad Administration’s regulations governing the inspection and test of railcars, and the Association of American Railroads Interchange Rules preferred

  • Ability to read prints and drawings, including weld and nondestructive testing symbols


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions

  • Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials

  • May work in confined spaces and at heights exceeding 4 ft. off the ground with proper PPE and fall protection

  • Close mental and visual attention required, coordinating manual dexterity with mental and visual attention for sustained periods of time


Working Schedule and Conditions

  • Covered roof area - temperature may not be climate controlled

  • Work outdoors

  • Primary work environment subject to extreme heat or cold for considerable amounts of time. Must dress accordingly

  • Hearing protection shall be required in certain designated areas and during the performance of specific designated jobs due to noise levels greater than 80 decibels

  • Intermittent exposure to vibration when using impact tools

  • Scaffolds, floors, ladders and walking surfaces may be uneven
